Dr Emma Southall

Postdoctoral Researcher

Emma received her MChem degree from the University of St Andrews in June 2022. As part of her MChem, Emma completed an industrial placement year in Johnson Matthey's Technology Centre where she worked on heterogeneous hydrogenation catalysts. She then returned to St Andrews to complete her final year research project under the supervision of Prof. Paul Wright where she investigated metal-organic frameworks for carbon capture applications.

Emma joined the O'Hare group as a DPhil student in October 2022. Her project involved designing LDH-functionalised hollow zirconia spheres for carbon dioxide conversion. She is now a postdoctoral research associate in the group, working on porous material synthesis and heterogenous catalyst design.

Outside of chemistry, Emma enjoys spending time with friends, travelling and visiting new coffee shops.
